spdif can bring in 8 channels

I thought spdif could only bring in two channels r l but i read here that it can bring in 8 is that true?

no, spdif is two-channel interface. you may have misunderstood the fact that there are adat / spdif converters that allow you to route four spdif pairs (totalling 8 channels) through 8-channel adat interface. am i right?

no that's what I thought but read otherwise
