Hey Reaps. I am looking for an affordable hardware midi sequencer/ arpeggiater for sequencing soft synths only. I am not using it for any analog gear or synths. I love my midi keyboards as they are physical and tactile and take me out of the virtual world. I guess part of me loves the enormous flexibility and ease of using plugins and virtual synths but I almost feel a little like "Flat Stanley" after a while....a little 2 dimensional. For me it's like watching the original Star Wars trilogy, it's very organic and somewhat cheesy but very real in its approach. Watching the last three episodes although a superior visual spectical, I get a fake and a disconnect type vibe with them...almost as if my brain senses too much visual artificialality if that's a word. So what would you all recommend for an affordable sequencer with an arpeggiater feature? I did some googling but a lot of what I found is geared towards hardware. I guess I need a little more " tactile and real knobs and switches" too balance out my virtual world. Thanks all. Happy Easter all and may your day be well with family and friends.

There are lots of options now, but I really like the E/MU command stations. They have 16 knobs, a full scale of velocity pads, 16 "buttons" that have rounded edges so you can "swipe" across them turning them on and off (in groups if you desire), and 16 programmable arpeggiators that can be triggered with pads, buttons, or knobs. You can get 'em fairly cheap these days, and you don't even need the expansion boards that come with them if you are only going to use softsynths. So if you don't need sounds from the unit, you can buy one, and sell the internal board and just keep the unit for use as a controller. Also, has a 150,000 note sequencer with 16 tracks!!!

Bro, if you are dead set on hardware, then so be it. But, if you are open to a software option, take a look at this.
