Real Time Pattern Recording in Strike style editior

I'm trying to record a new pattern using a MIDI controller to trigger events in the style editor. As far as i've been able to tell, the only way to create a new pattern is to select one of the existing preset patterns, clear it, and then use the pencil tool to DRAW new events one note at a time in the style editor, then save the style to the user styles. Is there a way i can use the MIDI keyboard to create a new Pattern loop in real time instead of using the Pencil. This would save me a tremendous amount of time. also there are 4 types of user folders, style, kit, mix, and presets. How do I save a USER PRESET (kit, mix,style). I see the folder, but it gives me no options to save anything to it. I've had no problems saving kits, styles, and mixes (the instructions are in the PDF) but i can't save my combinations of Kit, style, and mix, to the user presets. suggestions would be appreciated.
